The University of South Carolina is seeking an experienced Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Specialist who is interested in a full-time career in an accredited patient-centered medical home within a college health environment.  The University of South Carolina’s Student Health Services (SHS) provides care through a care-team model with nurses, physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered dietitians, counseling, social workers, psychiatrists, and other allied health professionals, and employs approximately 200 staff members.

The EMR Specialist’s primary role is to direct, evaluate, review and manage all EMR resources and services across the organization while ensuring high levels of data quality and clinical operation. SHS operates under an integrated health, counseling, psychiatry and wellness electronic medical record platform with multiple clinical interfaces. Individual is responsible for administration, maintenance, and enhancement of the EMR to include Practice Management (PM) and a secure patient portal. Will be largely responsible for helping realize, implement and achieve the potential of the EMR software to meet all initiatives relating to patient quality and/or reimbursement.

The EMR Specialist will work closely with the clinical and administrative staff to provide support to all users. Will assist with implementing software upgrades and maintenance, and security of the application while collaborating with department representatives as needed. Will provide best practice IT approach solutions and consultative support.

Individual will build templates, forms, scripts and reports to support clinical staff, patient care and ensure effective meaningful use of the EMR. Will be responsible for the overall process and monitoring of user and provider accounts, staff training and orientation, maintenance and on-going operational support in all clinic locations. Will assist in supporting the help desk and technical support staff.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology Systems, business administration or related field and 4 years’ experience in computer operations or a related field; or equivalency.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with electronic health information systems, HIPAA security regulations and working within a health care environment are highly desirable. Prior experience with generating complex reports, analyzing and providing solutions to complex problems. Experience with practices, procedures and control techniques associated with confidentiality, integrity and functional knowledge of network security defenses. Familiar with project management concepts. Experience with HL-7 interfaces.
