How Connected Is Our Care – #HITsm Chat Topic

We’re excited to share the topic and questions for this week’s #HITsm chat happening Friday, 5/7 at Noon ET (9 AM PT). This week’s chat will be hosted by Kathryn Ayers Wickenhauser (@KAWickenhauser) from @DirectTrust on the topic “How Connected Is Our Care?

We’re inundated with healthcare standards and always hearing buzzwords like “interoperability” and “information blocking,” but when it comes down to it, how connected is our care? Do our healthcare providers and care teams receive the information they need to help us make the best decisions regarding our health? Have we suffered the consequences of repeat tests and high costs, simply because our health information was not shared or accessible?

While interoperability is not the new kid on the block, there’s no doubt that there is still some growing up to do. This year’s DirectTrust Summit (discount code to attend below), held virtually on June 9-10th, will explore this adolescent state of interoperability, including examining what’s working well (see the panel moderated by AHIMA with Carequality, CommonWell Health Alliance, DirectTrust, eHealth Exchange, and SHIEC), and looking toward the horizon of possibilities (“Ideas in Interop”) as interoperability continues to mature.

Before we can imagine the future and improve the lives of care teams and patients through accessible, usable, and quality information, we need to give interoperability a report card of where we are at right now. Join us this week as we discuss interoperability and how connected our care really is.

Join us for this week’s #HITsm chat where we’ll discuss the following.

Topics for this week’s #HITsm Chat:

T1: Has a provider ever followed up with you after you’ve received care elsewhere, as a result of being informed? #HITsm

T2: Does interoperability have an identity problem? Do care teams understand what it is and that they have access to it? #HITsm

T3: Knowing there are many situations where interoperability may be a benefit, should care teams expect to have more than one interop solution? #HITsm

T4: Other than regulation, what can happen to drive care teams to use interoperability? #HITsm

T5: What does an interoperability nirvana look like? #HITsm

Bonus: As a patient, do you experience interoperability? How many patient portals do you have? #HITsm
