Today I came across this interesting tweet from Martin Kelly that said “We talk about the rate of disruption however it has taken 15 years to move from Skype to Zoom and still spend half my day asking ‘can you hear me now’”. Martin is right that we have to be careful to keep some perspective on how fast disruption really happens. The overnight successful startups make for great headlines, but the truth behind most disruptive startup companies is that they’re at least a decade in the making.
This observation aside, Martin’s tweet seemed like the perfect backdrop for today’s Fun Friday that does an amazing job mixing various tech cultures. In this case it’s social media and EHR software. Although, there’s an even more ironic part to this cartoon that I won’t spoil until you get a chance to see the cartoon.

Did you find it? I actually think it’s funny on multiple dimensions. First, there actually is some liking and favoriting in some EHR systems which want to learn if you like alerts or not for example. It’s not quite the same as a social media like or favorite, but it’s not too far off.
The other unintended funnier part of this cartoon to me is when it says “we only share information with other healthcare providers.” Are they really sharing information from their EHR with other healthcare providers? Oh wait…I guess they do fax records to other providers. I’ll let lie that it says they only share with healthcare providers and not patients.
Maybe there is something EHR software can learn from social media. Have a great weekend!
