UK-based healthcare device company, Lifelight and UK predictive care management startup, Karantis360 have announced a partnership which will enable safer independent living for older and vulnerable individuals.

Running on the IBM Cloud, the Karantis360 solution uses IBM’s AI and analytics in conjunction with a network of smart sensors to identify and learn an individual’s typical behaviour.

WHY IT MATTERS

The integrated solution can support early hospital discharge and prevent hospital admission by empowering clinicians and care providers to make informed decisions based on the complete picture of an individual's health, in real-time.

Lifelight, allows contactless measurement of vital signs using a standard smartphone or tablet, with no additional hardware.

The technology works by detecting tiny changes in facial skin colour that occurs each time the heart beats, including heart rate, blood pressure, respiration and oxygen saturations.

The combined power of Lifelight’s vital signs monitoring solution integrated within the Karantis360 at-home healthcare platform delivers a remote view of a person’s wellbeing allowingfor timely interventions and clinical actions based on real-time physiological data.

The solution provides reassurance to caregivers and family members by delivering a complete picture of the wellbeing of the person in a care setting.

Any changes in normal daily routine or vital sign readings will be indicated via automated alerts sent to the care provider and family members.

THE LARGER CONTEXT

EIT Health recently revealed a number of silver tech health solutions to mark the UN International Day of Older persons, as part of the EU's central goal to promote healthy ageing.

ON THE RECORD

Laurence Pearce, CEO and founder of Lifelight said: “We’re energised by our partnership with Karantis360 and the ability to further support care providers, especially during the pandemic.  Our joint solution allows behavioural and vital sign readings of individuals in their homes and care settings to be taken regularly, safely and has optimised clinicians’ workflow.  It saves the need for emergency call outs, unnecessary patient travel and added disruption.

"As we’ve seen, COVID-19 has meant phone and online GP consultations are taking over face-to-face appointments,  but often physical observations still need to be done and our solution can reduce many of those appointments, improving patient care and supporting clinical decision-making.”
