WW International has released its latest approach to weight loss, a fully immersive digital membership plan called Digital 360.

The program builds upon the WW weight loss method and gives members access to on-demand and live coaching, an online community of peers, and a variety of virtual experiences and events.

Specifically, the Digital 360 program includes a personalized weight loss and wellness plan, daily inspiration posts from WW coaches, CoachLIVES sessions that include deep dives into the WW program, meditations, workouts, cooking demos and more, access to a new podcast that combines audio walking workouts with celebrity and expert commentary, and admission to live and interactive events with wellness leaders, expert guests and WW members.

Digital 360 is now available, and pricing starts at $4.61 per week.

WHY THIS MATTERS

More than 42% of adults in the U.S. are obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Obesity can lead to some of the most common conditions for preventable, premature death such as heart disease, stroke, Type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer.

In an evaluation of six randomized control trials comparing WW programs to control groups, WW members had at least 2.6% greater weight loss at 12 months, according to a review from Annals of Internal Medicine.

The review also identified WW as the most cost-effective weight management program, which is significant because obese individuals can spend upwards of $1,400 more in medical costs than those of normal weight, according to the CDC.

Studies have indicated that commercially available digital weight-loss programs can achieve clinically significant short-term and midterm weight loss.

THE LARGER TREND

Last November, WW released its personalized weight loss program, myWW+, which combines customizable plans and machine learning-curated content for each member. Members who sign up for Digital 360 will also get access to this program.

CVS Health upped its digital health offering last summer by adding Big Health’s Daylight, Vida Weight Loss +, Weight Watchers, Kurbo and Naturally Slim to its Point Solution Management service.

WW has also shown interest in the child-obesity space with its acquisition of Kurbo Health. Now called Kurbo by WW, the app was re-released in 2019 and encourages users to track their food intake and behavior while dispensing general tips regarding healthy lifestyles and more specific guidance on skills such as reading and understanding food labels.

Elsewhere in the digital health subscription space, Apple launched Fitness+ last fall. The platform is intended to be used with an Apple Watch and offers an array of fitness videos.

ON THE RECORD

"With such an overwhelmingly positive response to the November launch of myWW+, our newest and most personalized program followed by all WW members, we are thrilled to offer D360 – an entirely new way for members to choose to do WW," said Mindy Grossman, the WW CEO and president, in a statement.

"Coaching is the heartbeat of WW, and our expert D360 Coaches will not only support our members with their expertise and advice, but they will also introduce them to a variety of thought leaders at the forefront of wellness – to offer their unique perspectives to our members on how to reach their goals, improve their health and achieve a life filled with possibility."
