Apple’s subscription-based platform for at-home workouts will now offer a trio of programs created specifically for groups oftentimes overlooked in fitness.

Launching April 19 on the Fitness+ platform are new workout sections for pregnant people, older adults and beginners.

"Apple Fitness+ is integrated with Apple Watch to build on the goal of helping people live a better day by being more active," Jay Blahnik, the senior director of fitness technologies at Apple, said in a statement. "With more options for getting started, and staying active and healthy during pregnancy as well as at any age or fitness level, we hope even more people will be inspired to keep moving with our amazing team of passionate trainers."

Outside of the new programs, Apple also expanded its team of trainers by welcoming new yoga instructor Jonelle Lewis and adding existing Fitness+ trainer Anja Garcia to the high-intensity interval training (HIIT) team.

Additionally, it announced a new episode of "Time to Walk" with Jane Fonda in time for Earth Day. Fonda will talk about standing up to her fears and the power of taking action to fight climate change in the episode.

WHAT’S THE IMPACT?

Each of the new workout programs features classes that average about 10 minutes in total and focus on the specific health needs of that group.

For example, the pregnancy workouts are designed to help future mothers stay active during their pregnancy and preps them for life with a new baby. Each of the classes is led by moms-to-be or new moms who can provide modifications to any stage of pregnancy at any fitness level.

Meanwhile, the workouts for older adults have a focus on strength, flexibility, balance, coordination and mobility. A number of these workouts are completed using bodyweight only or light free weights and include modifications like using a chair or a wall for support.

Finally, for beginners, the series hopes to help newbies get started and stay motivated with the available yoga, strength and HIIT workouts. Specifically designed with this group in mind, the beginner classes are low impact and only utilize basic movements.

THE LARGER TREND

Apple released the Fitness+ platform last summer, bringing itself into the world of home workouts that include the likes of Peloton and Mirror.

The tech giant launched "Time to Walk" earlier this year. The feature downloads weekly episodes that range from 25 to 40 minutes in length with musicians, athletes and other celebrities sharing personal stories.

Other digital fitness platforms include Moxie, Future and Freeletics.
