DataDiscovery Offering from MGMA Debuts at #MPE21

MGMA debuted its new DataDiscovery analytics tool at the 2021 Medical Practice Excellence Leaders Conference in San Diego (#MPE21). DataDiscovery provides interactive visualizations to quickly highlight high and low performing areas within medical practices. The tool is powerful yet easy to use and can be integrated directly with a practices’ systems including their EHR.

Leveraging MGMA’s Rich Data History

For years, MGMA has been conducting detailed surveys of its members in order to build comprehensive benchmarks that are then shared back with members so that they can gauge their own performance. This data has been collected in MGMA’s Data.Dive offering.

DataDiscovery leverages the operational and financial benchmarking data from Data.Dive, but instead of offering a retrospective look, it allows practice leaders to view their performance in real-time. This real-time analytic capability means that practices can be more proactive when it comes to their operational and financial performance.

Quickly Identify Issues

Using DataDiscovery, a practice leader can see how they are performing across a number of key metrics including:

  • Appointments kept vs no-shows
  • Days in A/R
  • Daily encounters and charges created
  • Denial values and volumes
  • + many more

Users can drill down on any of these metrics by payer, by physician and other dimensions with just a click of a button. All the metrics and benchmark data is presented nicely in a configurable dashboard.

By presenting key metrics in this manner, DataDiscovery can help practice leaders quickly identify areas for improvement.

Partnership with Whitespace Health

DataDiscovery was built using WhiteSpace Health’s Intelligent guided analytics platform which has been in-market for over 6 years. Several healthcare vendors have embedded the WhiteSpace platform to offer their users analytic capabilities.

MGMA and WhiteSpace announced their partnership back in June. At that time, Gautam Char, CEO of WhiteSpace Health stated: “Together, we will automate the delivery of Key Performance Indicators and benchmarking data that support operational and strategic planning efforts by creating visibility to revenue leakage and operational improvement opportunities.”

From what I saw at #MPE21 they have delivered.

Impressions

While at the conference, I had the opportunity to get a demonstration of DataDiscovery from both MGMA and Whitespace representatives and I was impressed. It is very easy to use and intuitive. Anyone who has used a Business Intelligence tool or analytics platform in that past will have no trouble navigating it.

Casual consumers of data will also have no issues with the interface.

What I liked the most was how the platform can connect directly to a practice’s EHR. This eliminates the need to download key metrics into a spreadsheet before uploading them into the analytics platform – a limitation in the Data.Dive offering.

Now that the DataDiscovery platform has debuted, plans are already underway to roll it out to the first few members. MGMA and Whitespace are eager to see how member react to the new platform and to incorporating the feedback into future iterations.
