Digital pediatric-behavioral-health company Cognoa announced today the appointment of David Happel as its new CEO. He comes from biopharmaceutical company Chrono Therapeutics, which he led as president, CEO and director, as well as stints at Horizon Therapeutics, Raptom Pharma, Allergen Research Corporation and others.

Brent Vaughan, Cognoa's cofounder and former CEO, will be serving in an advisory capacity during his transition out of Cognoa and into a new role at the digital health company's lead investor, healthcare venture-capital firm Morningside.

“We have pioneered the first diagnostic and the first digital therapeutic for autism, with both receiving FDA Breakthrough Designation, and have firmly established ourselves as leaders in pediatric behavioral health and digital therapeutics," Vaughan said in a statement. "I am thrilled that David will be picking up the baton. With his background in both the biotech and pharmaceutical industries, combined with his experience in commercialization, he is the ideal person to successfully take Cognoa to market."

Jonas Hjortshøj is joining digital health coaching company Liva Healthcare as its new CCO. He comes directly from Novo Nordisk, where he most recently served as an associate global director in charge of commercial partnering on obesity.

“Jonas will be a key strategic asset as we embark on our ambitious European-wide expansion plan," Liva Healthcare CEO Kristoffer From said in a statement. “Our digital coaching platform is proving instrumental in the global fight against Type 2 diabetes, obesity and heart disease. Our blend of scientific guidance and empathetic support results in long-term, sustainable, lifestyle changes for participants. We’re proud to support healthcare professionals with our scalable and cost-effective solution.”

Apixio, an artificial-intelligence healthcare-analytics company, has tapped Bryan Lee as its new VP of solutions. Here, he'll use his experience building compliance-management products for government and commercial plans to help Apixio develop new AI products for the company's payer customers.

I’ve been watching Apixio grow with great interest, and I am impressed by the company’s ability to reveal transformative insights hidden in administrative and unstructured clinical data,” Lee said in a statement. “I’m excited to apply advanced technologies to improve program performance and efficiency and, ultimately, patient outcomes.”

Eagle Telemedicine has picked up a new SVP of operations by way of Jason Povio, a former director of acute medicine for North Carolina's Mission Health. Povio's leadership role will extend across all of Eagle's business, which includes its operations, program development and management, credentialing and marketing.

“We are pleased to welcome Jason to the Eagle family,” Dr. Talbot McCormick, president and CEO of Eagle Telemedicine, said in a statement. “With his valuable healthcare operations and systems engineering background, he brings a fresh perspective to our executive team as we begin our second decade of success. I am confident he will help us chart new courses of growth.”
