About the Job

General Statement of Responsibilities:

The Business Application and Systems Administrator performs and implements process improvements within software applications to streamline work and improve service delivery in the clinic health applications. This position supports departmental business applications/systems in coordination with University of Minnesota support units.

30% – Business Analysis:

  • Assists with analyzing and defining business processes to develop or align technical solutions to business and operational needs.
  • Assists with evaluation of application system software upgrades, identify the current and future-state business processes, analyze, test, document, and communicate new functionality and the impacts to current business processes.
  • Recommends process improvement and/or system upgrades based on workflow analysis.
  • Assists with assessing the risk of various business solutions and provides input into prioritizing competing business demands.
  • Collaborates with business users to understand and address technology deficiencies and new business needs.
  • Manages ongoing relationships with business user areas to drive satisfaction and information technology (IT).
  • Communicates with application software vendors, detailing business reasons and requirements for new functionality requests and providing feedback on discovered vendor software flaws.
  • Assists with partnering with other IT teams to evaluate new IT related products and services and implement new technology.
  • Stays current with software development tools, trends, best practices, and emerging technologies
  • Follows documented change control procedures when implementing solutions.
  • Ensures compliance with established University of Unit standards and policies.

30% – Technical Support:

  • Provides technical support to staff on clinical applications.
  • Responds to users’ problems which includes troubleshooting, diagnosing, rectifying, or escalating the problem.
  • Develops and maintains comprehensive documentation regarding application configurations / technical system specifications and knowledge base articles for applications.
  • Collaborates with other IT teams as well as with business users to solve business problems and system issues
  • Communicates business solutions clearly and follows through to ensure implemented solutions resolve the documented issues.
  • Communicates and collaborates with application software vendors as needed to resolve identified issues.
  • Creates documentation for responding to support issues including knowledge-based articles or other guides.

40% – Application Administration:

  • Assists with installing, configuring, and maintaining applications in support of business needs and priorities.
  • Assists with ensuring that the business is fully utilizing the available technology to enhance productivity and improve workflows.
  • Assists with project teams for new vendor application software features and new technology related projects, reviewing release notes, communicating feature changes, providing clear communication to team members, and managing business users’ expectations.
  • Assists with defining and controlling project scope, priorities, and deliverables.
  • Reviews software application documentation to create and execute detailed test plans to ensure the accuracy of the system and to identify any potential defects and risks.
  • Works with vendors to implement software application features according to established agreements
  • Creates and presents end-user training programs.
  • Maintains user accounts and permissions and audits permissions to minimize vulnerabilities.
