Equity on Either Side of Health – #HITsm Chat Topic

We’re excited to share the topic and questions for this week’s #HITsm chat happening Friday, 4/9 at Noon ET (9 AM PT). This week’s chat will be hosted by James E Gaston (@JamesEGaston) on the topic “Equity on Either Side of Health.

According to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, “Healthcare equity means that everyone has a fair and just opportunity to be as healthy as possible. This requires removing obstacles to health such as poverty, discrimination, and their consequences, including powerlessness and lack of access to good jobs with fair pay, quality education and housing, safe environments, and health care.”

If you (more or less) flip those two words around you get “equitable healthcare,” which is different but just as challenging. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality puts equitable care as one of the six domains of healthcare and defines it as “providing care that does not vary in quality because of personal characteristics such as gender, ethnicity, geographic location, and socioeconomic status.”

“Healthcare equity” is equal access, and “equitable healthcare” is equal quality of care. #PromoteHealthEquity is the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation hashtag.

Join us for this week’s #HITsm chat where we’ll discuss the following questions.

Topics for this week’s #HITsm Chat:

T1: Do you and your family enjoy health equity and/or equitable care? Explain… #HITsm
