#HITtheTrails Mix Tape

There is nothing better than a good mix tape to accompany you on a long road trip. To this day, any song by John Denver invokes memories of childhood road vacations to Daytona Beach. A good song can make the miles melt away.

Mix tapes are also great to help get you pumped up and tackle a tough challenge. You can’t tell me that “Eye of the Tiger” doesn’t get you motivated to climb stairs or shadow box.

When I learned that Joy Rios (@askjoyrios), founder and co-host of the amazing HIT Like a Girl podcast, and Shereese Maynard (@ShereeseMayMba) were organizing an across-the-US road + hiking trip to bring women together to “develop leadership and self-advocacy skills” – I wanted to get involved. They are fully vaccinated and will be making stops in various cities and going on hikes with the health IT community that will double as a local meetup.

To find out more, check out the website https://www.hitlikeagirlpod.com/events and stay up to date on Twitter via the #HITtheTrails hashtag (Side Note: You can also sponsor an AirBnB night or a tank of gas).

Unfortunately, with the border between Canada and the US still closed, I couldn’t meet them in one of their city stops, so I immediately thought – Mix Tape!

In a normal year, I would have gotten my spring Mix Tape fix because of the annual HIMSS Conference (the annual #HIMSSMixTape is going on 5 years now!) but since it’s been moved to August this year, I haven’t been able to indulge. So thank you to Joy for allowing us to contribute songs for her amazing #HITtheTrails journey.

Thank you to everyone who contributed a song choice. You can listen to the #HITtheTrails Mix Tape on Spotify.

  • On The Way Home – John Mayer. This is my motivational song right now! It tells me to always find something that makes you smile

From Colin Hung, CMO and Editor at Healthcare IT Today:

  • Heroes by Alesso featuring Tove Lo. Not only a great song to get you moving, but also a fantastic message in the lyrics. This is for everyone joining on the hikes!
  • Alone by Armin van Buuren & Laruen Evans. Fantastic driving song (try it on an empty highway). Plus there is a fantastic line that I think embodies #HITtheTrails “Everyone is connected, but no one is connecting. The human element has long been missing.”
  • Wings by Avao. Nothing beats an uplifting Trance song for a roadtrip. This latest banger is energizing, dance-worthy and the lyrics are amazing: “If I don’t have courage then what good are my wings. What good are wings if I hide them…what good are wings if they’re binding…what good are wings if we don’t risk it all…”
