Decentralized clinical trial firm Medable picks chief strategy officer and other digital health hires

Also: bink health names Elizabeth Mora and Naomi Kelman to its board of directors, and Mandana Varahrami will join CipherHealth.

This morning decentralized clinical trial company Medable named Dr. MaryAnne Rizk as its new chief strategy officer. A trained engineer, Rizk has previously worked at Oracle, Medidata, Merck and IQVIA. 

Her main role at the Palo Alto, Calif.-startup will be expanding the company’s global strategic partnerships. 

“We’re excited to pursue a series of distinct and complementary partnerships across a network of service, technology, data and sites that further strengthen Medable impact to serve patients,” Rizk said in a statement. “The progress Medable has experienced to date has been remarkable, and we believe that thoughtful and strategic partnerships will empower more ways to advance clinical research. I’m thrilled to join Michelle and the Medable team, who are leading the way with true vision and innovation that can help move the industry forward faster.”


Just five months after closing a $43 million Series B funding round, remote care management platform Current Health is announcing two new hires. The first is Mark Kaufman who will be joining the company as its next chief technology officer. Shardul Mehta will serve as the company’s senior vice president of product. 

Before coming to Current Health, Kaufman led the engineering team at Amazon EMR’s data plane. He also held roles at NuoDB, HP, Iron Mountain and Exagrid systems. 

Mehta will be joining the team to oversee the product strategy and innovation initiatives. He previously worked at Amwell as vice president of Product Management.

Home diagnostic company binx health has added two new board members: Elizabeth Mora and Naomi Kelman. Mora, who will serve as the chair of binx’s Audit Committee, previously served as the chief administration officer and chief financial officer of Draper Laboratory. Her resume also includes a stint as Harvard University’s chief financial officer and a senior manager at PriceWaterhouseCoopers. 

Kelman recently served as the president and CEO of Willow Innovations. She has also held positions at Novartis AG, Johnson & Johnson and Clairol.

Mandana Varahrami will join CipherHealth as the company’s next chief product officer. She comes from her role as chief product officer at RapidDeploy. She previously held roles at Babylon Health and Optum Insights. 

"Mandana's rich and varied experience in healthcare technology, as well as her ability to drive cutting-edge innovation, make her the ideal person to lead our product team into the future,"  CipherHealth CEO Jake Pyles, said in a statement. "Having just recently announced our next-generation patient engagement platform, this is the perfect time for Mandana to bring her field-tested leadership and strategy expertise to bear and help us accelerate growth and chart the future of patient engagement."


Medication tracking company Kit Check named Vijay Venkatesh as its next chief technology officer. Venkatesh previously served as CTO for MakeSpace, Emissary, Amplify and Pearson Education.
