Cryptocurrency, NFTs, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Dogecoin – #HITsm Chat Topic

We’re excited to share the topic and questions for this week’s #HITsm chat happening Friday, 5/14 at Noon ET (9 AM PT). This week’s chat will be hosted by John Lynn (@techguy) from @hcitoday on the topic “Cryptocurrency, NFTs, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Dogecoin.”

If you spend any amount of time online you’ve probably seen a wide variety of cyptocurrencies mentioned.  The most popular of course is Bitcoin and it gets most of the press.  Considering you could get 1 bitcoin for under a hundred bucks about 6 years ago and now that same bitcoin is worth over $55,000 (Note: prices change often, but close enough), it’s no wonder it’s gotten a lot of news coverage.  However, many predict that Ethereum will actually be more valuable in the long term because of things like SmartContracts that are built into Ethereum (Bitcoin has now built something similar as well).  And then, how could we not mention Dogecoin which has been getting a lot of press thanks to Elon Musk including his recent visit to SNL where he mentioned it.  Cryptocurrency is going wild and it’s hard to keep up with everything that’s happening and it’s hard to understand what it all means.

At this week’s chat, we’ll take a look at it from a healthcare perspective.  Is there a role for cryptocurrency in healthcare?  What will that role be?  Will people be paying for healthcare using cryptocurrency?

Going beyond cryptocurrency, we’ll also talk a bit about NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) and where we’ll see those in healthcare.  Does it make sense?  Will the first heart transplant be the first NFT sold for example?

Worth noting, I haven’t mentioned the word blockchain yet.  In this chat, we’ll just be talking about crytpocurrencies and NFTs and not other uses of blockchain in healthcare.  We’ll save that topic for a future chat.
