Hims, an online mail-order men’s health company that incorporates remote consultations for prescription products, is looking to double its potential customer base with the launch of a similar product line and service targeting women.

“Hers” will offer a range of hair, skin and sexual health products for online order and delivery. Much like its male counterpart, ordering a product that requires a medical prescription (such as generic birth control pills or the controversial sex drive treatment flibanserin) will include a remote physician consultation and approval before checkout.

What’s the impact

Hims made an early impression by working with pharmacies to offer its products and treatments at a manageable rates to customers.

Perhaps more importantly, the mail-order service offers its customers discretion for potentially sensitive or embarrassing conditions such as hair loss or erectile dysfunction. Outside of the business opportunity, replicating this approach for women’s health and wellness with Hers similarly increases access to care for customers unable or unlikely to seek it otherwise.

What’s the trend

Hims landed a $50 million investment in July of this year, less than a year after launching its service in November 2017. At the time the company said that the funding would be put toward growing its prescription drug business, a goal last week’s launch appears to make good on.

Meanwhile a similar online men’s health platform, Ro (formerly Roman), landed $88 million in September and announced plans to expand beyond erectile dysfunction and into smoking cessation.
