At-home connected fitness company Peloton is moving into the office with its new corporate wellness program for businesses.

Now companies in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, and soon Australia, can offer their employees access to Peloton’s workout classes and more.

"Introducing Peloton Corporate Wellness is the latest step to making the award-winning Peloton experience more accessible," William Lynch, the president of Peloton, said in a statement.

"Over the years we've worked hard to help our Members achieve healthier and happier lifestyles. Peloton Corporate Wellness is the natural extension for us to be able to scale that offering. Together with our Corporate Wellness partners, we're now able to share the experience with millions more while also driving stronger culture and community within the workplace."

WHAT’S THE IMPACT?

The corporate wellness benefit for employees includes access to the Peloton app, which includes fitness classes ranging from yoga and meditation to strength training and running. Member employees will also get “exclusive benefits” on Peloton’s connected devices, like its stationary bike, according to the release.

Additionally, the program seeks to foster community within the company through competitive challenges, group classes and the leaderboard, which can show members their coworkers who have similar fitness interests.

For employers, the program aggregates anonymized user data to reveal how the benefit is impacting their workforce’s physical and mental health. In fact, Peloton members report that the platform made them feel happier (77%), improved their mental health (65%) gave them a feeling of accomplishment (83%) and made them more productive at work (64%), according to the announcement.

At launch, Accenture Interactive, Nasdaq, Sky, Wayfair, Samsung and SAP are the program's first adopters.

"Our employees are the key to our success," Dan Healey, the head of human resources for SAP North America, said in a statement. "We're thrilled to pilot Peloton's Corporate Wellness program as an additional benefit to foster employee engagement and inspiration.”

THE LARGER TREND

This announcement comes on the heels of some Peloton controversy. In early May, the company voluntarily recalled its treadmills following pressure from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission over reports of more than 70 incidents of injuries and one child’s death.

Just weeks after the recall, Peloton announced a new safety feature for its treadmills that locks the device after 45 seconds of inactivity outside a class or after a user puts it to sleep.

Offering these types of wellness benefits has become increasingly popular among employers, especially during the pandemic. Late last month, Yes Health and Gympass teamed up to offer employers a combined version of the companies’ health and fitness services. Health and wellness coaching platform YourCoach.Health also recently launched an employee-centric version of its platform.

Mental health is another focus area for employers, and earlier this year Meru Health released a new program aimed at helping employees dealing with mild depression or anxiety symptoms.
